Removing raised stone bed.

The whole of the garden is patio, with a raised stone bed around two edges. We’ve removed all the patio to lay turf. We were hoping to turf up to the fence and remove the raised stone bed, however have just realised our garden seems to be lower than next doors so if we removed the bed to garden level (about 6”)  it will be lower than the stone kick boards put in between us and next door. Is there any way around this as we didn’t really want to keep the boarder? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi @ginej03

Thanks for our question. It's a common one when people come to redesigning urban gardens that they realise there are all sorts of gotchas with height and level changes.

You have two options.

1. Remove the fence panel and get another concrete gravel board placed on the bottom to adjust the void. Which stops the gap and soil escaping into next doors garden or vice versa. Which can be expensive.

2.Work with the levels and keep the raised bed but create something wonderful! Maybe a multistem tree like a Prunus serrula and the under plant with shade loving plants like Ferns, Epimediums and other slug proof plants.

I know which one I would choose!

Happy gardening.

Lee
